Susana Cereja presents "Primeira Paragem" at Estação das Artes de Mirandela

The Portuguese artist unveils a new exhibition featuring 42 textile works, including 19 previously unseen pieces
Following Casa de Partida, Susana Cereja presents Primeira Paragem, a new exhibition that marks another significant moment in her artistic practice. On view at the Estação das Artes de Mirandela, the exhibition brings together 42 works, 19 of them previously unseen, reaffirming the artist's ongoing exploration of textile as a language through which identity, femininity and the search for freedom are woven together in traditional techniques like Arraiolos tapestry.

Developed specifically for the historical former railway station, Primeira Paragem establishes a dialogue between the history of the site and the temporal dimension of textile making. Through embroidery, weaving and other textile techniques, Susana Cereja transforms thread, gesture and repetition into visual narratives that reflect on belonging, landscape and the passage of time, while expanding the expressive possibilities of a medium deeply rooted in Portuguese cultural heritage.

The exhibition further consolidates Susana Cereja's distinctive artistic practice, in which traditional textile processes are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, positioning craftsmanship as a space for critical reflection, material experimentation and poetic expression.

Opening on July 25th, it will be on view until January 6th 2027.
