On 18 April, MUDE – Museu do Design will present Matriz (2025), a work entering the Museum’s collection through a donation by its author, Vanessa Barragão, to the City of Lisbon.
Working exclusively with textile industry waste, Vanessa Barragão reinforces a commitment to sustainability while reviving ancestral techniques such as Smyrna knotting and crochet. Her practice establishes a dialogue between traditional craft and contemporary design, creating meaningful intergenerational connections. After the presentation, she will lead the ‘Crochet Workshop for Beginners’, offering a practical introduction to textile techniques. Through its scale, materials and organic forms, this tapestry invites a moment of contemplation and will remain on view in the long-term exhibition of the museum until 26 July.
