Osvaldo Ferreira, represented by the Angolan gallery THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, will participate in the SOLO section at Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2022. This special section explores how artists have reacted to intimacy and introspection, prompted by the pandemic and the effect that exchange and collaboration have on artistic practice as a whole. Over the next couple of weeks, be on the lookout for special features on this.

Osvaldo Ferreira was born and lives in Angola. He is one of the first artists to obtain higher education in the arts within the Angolan territory. His work, mostly painting, focuses on exploring themes of everyday life in Angolan society and expresses the intergenerational continuous/ discontinuous relationship within social experiences. The artist frequently integrates elements that chromatically and materially reference the African textile tradition of exuberant colours. The artist uses his mediums to emphasize further the presence of the cultural and social heritage of a continent that has witnessed successive processes of cultural appropriation and manipulation through colonization and globalization and the subsequent triggering of involuntary miscegenation and imposition of a degenerative system of their identity.
