Magda Delgado Portugal, b. 1980

Magda Delgado is a multidisciplinary artist from Lisbon who lives and works between Portugal and England. Her artistic practice centres on a multifaceted exploration of the relationship between humankind and the natural world, examining the tensions and interdependencies between these two spheres. Her approach is also shaped by the different geographical and cultural contexts of the countries in which she has lived, which inform the way she observes and questions this relationship.

Her work focuses particularly on the ethics of human action and its consequences for the natural world, addressing questions surrounding the possibility of redemption within an essentially eschatological vision of the end. In the face of a perspective often characterised by pessimism, the artist turns to aesthetic consolation as a form of resistance and escape, seeking in the artistic experience a possibility of reconciliation between humankind and nature.

Working across a range of media and disciplines, including drawing, painting, installation, photography and sculpture, Magda Delgado constructs scenarios and explores new forms of expression that reflect her conceptual concerns. Her practice is characterised by continuous experimentation and the incorporation of new techniques and materials, in an ongoing effort to expand the expressive possibilities of her ideas while avoiding reliance on established artistic formulas or creative stagnation.

The discovery of new materials and processes allows her to broaden her visual and conceptual vocabulary, opening up more expansive languages and possibilities without losing sight of the underlying message that runs throughout her work.
