Intersections - Within the Global South: Group Show: Galeria Banco Económico
THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE art gallery, the Banco Económico, and the South African Gallery MOMO, present, in Luanda: “Intersections - Within the Global South”.
The exhibition puts in dialogue 16 international contemporary artists and seeks to promote through their work a comprehensive reflection on some of the most relevant historical-social issues experienced in their geographical territories. At the same time, “Intersections - Within the Global South” critically explores the mechanisms of canon creation in the western art scene, favoring, through a curatorial direction, the presentation of works that materially and technically distance themselves from the conventional artistic media and genres.
The idea is materialized objectively in an almost total absence of «stricto sensu» painting works, to emphasize this artistic genre as a key element for the deconstruction of the more traditionally installed languages in the global system of contemporary art.

These artists embody an exhibition through which they conceptually and artistically explore multiple affinities inherent in the contemporary historical, social and political context of the “Global South” and frame their artistic production in the sphere of a social art, a “mirror art of contemporary life” that encourages public awareness of pressing issues that impel renewed sense of change. From human rights to social rights, from ecology to memory and identity, there are multiple meanings provided through patent works, which coexist in the intersection between abstraction, figurative and even the total dissolution of the human figure.
