OSSOS SECOS

António Faria Unveils an Exhibition at the Church of São Cristóvão
The Church of São Cristóvão will host the opening of OSSOS SECOS, a exhibition by Portuguese artist António Faria. The project brings together a collection of works deeply rooted in spiritual symbolism, thoughtfully conceived for presentation within a sacred space.

Faria’s decision to exhibit in the historic Church of São Cristóvão stems from the close relationship between his artwork and themes drawn from biblical tradition. Many of the featured pieces reflect on the Latin expression vanitas vanitatum—“vanity of vanities, all is vanity”—from the Book of Ecclesiastes, as well as the biblical precept, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return,” rendered in Latin as memento homo, quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris.

The church’s architectural and spiritual character provides an ideal setting for the exhibition, allowing the artworks to harmonise naturally with the environment. The symbolic depth of Faria’s work aligns closely with the contemplative atmosphere of the space, enhancing both the artistic experience and the sacred context in which it is presented.

The exhibition is curated by Rute Reimão, Francisco Braz de Oliveira, and Ricardo Castro Ferreira and will be patent till the end of February 2026.

Opening: 10 December at 7pm.
