Overview
“Heavy Is The Head”, is the first solo exhibition and international debut of Nigerian photographer Sanjo Lawal.
Presenting a completely new body of work, the exhibition engages with Yoruba heritage as both memory and future — exploring how cultural legacies are transmitted, transformed, and reimagined across generations.
Through the symbolic power of the fila and gele, Lawal stages a dialogue between tradition and contemporary aesthetics, where portraits become sites of resilience, dignity, and renewal.
