Revolutionary Poetics

SOLO SHOW BY MANUELA PIMENTEL AT THE NATIONAL TILE MUSEUM
23.05 - 15.09.2024
Revolutionary Poetics

The National Tile Museum presents “Revolutionary Poetics”, a solo exhibition by the Portuguese artist Manuela Pimentel, paying tribute to Portuguese poets during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th, notably to José Mário Branco, a revolutionary musician and poet.

The exhibition features around 20 works, some of which are unpublished, translated into compositions of installed paintings. Through these pieces, Manuela Pimentel reconfigures the role of the tile as a sacralized object within the local collective memory.

From the poetic dramaticism and rationalism that underpin Manuela Pimentel's work, a unique vision of the union between the sacred and the profane emerges. This is presented in a staged, visceral tone within the desacralized space of the museum, where the installed works declare themselves as integral parts of their environment.

The exhibition provides insight into the creation of an artist who explores the local context of popular and erudite cultural phenomena, inscribing them within the realm of global artistic creation.
