Mambo'o D27 Angola, b. 1990

Biography
Mambo’o D27 is a visual artist whose work explores the intersections between identity, memory, and displacement. Trained in Visual Communication at the School of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, he has developed a trajectory marked by pictorial experimentation and the use of contemporary graphic elements, such as visual codes, collage, and geometric structures, that engage in dialogue with both African tradition and modernity.

Since 2018, he has lived and worked in France, where he has participated in several artist residency programs, including initiatives dedicated to creation in contexts of exile. His work has stood out for its fusion of figurative language, narrative abstraction, and themes connected to the migratory experience.

Across painting, drawing, and installation, Mambo’o constructs a visual universe of strong symbolic resonance, in which he questions belonging, borders, and the construction of identity in the contemporary sphere.

His artistic practice arises from the need to understand what it means to move — physically, culturally, and emotionally. He seeks to create compositions that evoke inner maps: interrupted paths, memories that endure, identities that overlap. He is interested in the tension between what is visible and what is concealed, between figure and structure, between what is spoken and what remains silent.

Through vibrant colours, contrasting textures, and symbols that converse with African culture and the global context, his works attempt to capture that which usually slips away: the moment in which, faced with change, new ways of existing are discovered.
