Eduardo Malé São Tomé & Príncipe, b. 1973
Eduardo Malé was born in the district of Água Grande, in São Tomé and Príncipe. He began his artistic path in the mid-1990s as a self-taught artist, exploring the universe of visual expression and experimenting with various disciplines. His artistic training, undertaken in Lisbon and Caldas da Rainha (Portugal), provided him with a solid technical and conceptual foundation that would support the creation of distinctive works of painting and sculpture, offering a personal perspective on contemporary society over recent decades.
His practice also extended into the field of animation cinema, most notably through the creation of the project “Cinemação” — a series of television adverts on the theme of HIV/AIDS — developed in partnership with the National Programme for the Fight against AIDS, the School of Art and Design in Caldas da Rainha, RTP Africa, and UNICEF.
Malé returned to Africa in 2009. Acknowledging the urgent need for cultural intervention in his country, he has since taken on the roles of mentor, producer, and promoter of several artistic and cultural initiatives.
He currently lives and works in Portugal, having settled in the village of Torrão.
